Peïo Errecart from Domaine Abotia blends 20% Petit Courbu, 30% Petit Manseng, and 50% Gros Manseng in his white wine and ages the wine partly in neutral barriques. It goes wonderfully with Jambon de Bayonne, a well-aged Ossau-Iraty sheep's cheese, and especially with “ventrèche”, or tuna belly, in this case hand-caught and cut up before my eyes in the magnificent market hall of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. 🥂

The Rheingau region is synonymous with classic Rhe The Rheingau region is synonymous with classic Rheingau Rieslings, yet in recent years it has lost many wineries with a glorious tradition. One example is G. H. von Mumm, which was founded by Frankfurt wine merchant Gottlieb Mumm after he made a fortune with the legendary 1811 vintage from Schloss Johannisburg. He invested his profits in the Rheingau and Champagne regions... In 2012, the winery became a member of the VDP, but six years later, the premises were sold and in Schloss Johannisberg incorporated. Today, it is a kind of ‘ghost winery’ with a website but, if I understand correctly, apart from one or two non-vintage bottlings, which are mainly sold abroad, it has no wines. Harvested two hundred years after the start of the Rheingau adventure, this 2011 TBA from Johannisberger Schwarzenstein had everything a TBA needs: dense, creamy texture, unusually stable acidity for the vintage and a seemingly endless finish. A wonderful plea for the highest designation ("Prädikat") in German viticulture, but unfortunately also a painful reminder of a winery that helped make the Rheingau great, but now lives on only in memory.

The fact that people are drinking more red wine (a The fact that people are drinking more red wine (at least here in Germany) is perhaps the only positive thing about this summer. Les Tosses is one of Terroir al Limit's two top vineyards in the Catalan Priorat region and their top Cariñena. 2010 is a fairly early vintage and does not yet have the precision of the current vintage. 🍷Nevertheless, it is an impressive wine.

Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs is one of the least k Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs is one of the least known prestige champagnes, yet it is an insider tip. This is because it is produced in very small quantities and is made from what are possibly the best Chardonnay grapes of the Grand Cru Cramant. For an article I am preparing for Sur-la-pointe, I tasted the 2014 vintage in comparison to the classic Blanc de Blancs from Perrier-Jouët, which the Maison from Épernay has been producing since 2017.
