„Vom Champagner“. Ein Artikel aus „Der Weinkenner“ von 1905

von peg
Gepostet am 14/08/2025

Vorwort des Herausgebers Der Reiz dieses Artikels liegt nicht zuletzt darin, dass der unbekannte Autor zunächst auf einen Champagnertext zurückblickt, der seinerseits über 100 Jahre alt ist. Wie der „Weinkenner“-Autor sich nicht ganz ohne Grund…

Maison Louis Roederer invited a small group to Rei Maison Louis Roederer invited a small group to Reims for a presentation of its current portfolio. It turned into two spectacular days in Champagne! Three tastings with a total of 24 cuvées, a tour of the cellar, a Cristal dinner at the Hôtel Werlé, the Maison's family mansion, excursions to vineyards in Verzenay and Aӱ, and a finale at the press center in Aӱ. I don't know what to highlight first: the incredible freshness of the Cristal Vinothèque 2004 in magnum, the superb balance and complexity of the 1993 vintage (also in magnum), or the exciting precision of the 2019 Blanc de Blancs, which will soon be available for purchase and is one of the best BdBs the house has ever produced. The two Camille still wines would be worth an article of its own. In any case, a big thank you to our hosts Frédéric Rouzaud, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Thierry Wallaert, and Aida Dudas, as well as German importer Rudolf Knickenberg and Maria Kraus from mk-2 for the invitation! A detailed article will follow in late fall on Sur-la-pointe. 🍾🥂🎉

Last week, Budapest hosted the BOR 2025 – Hungar Last week, Budapest hosted the BOR 2025 – Hungarian Wine Summit: an excellently organized showcase of the Hungarian wine sector with 150 guests from all over the world over eight days. Master classes were complemented by tastings and trips to selected wine regions such as Eger, Szekszárd, Villány, and Tokaj. For me, it was a fascinating insight into a wine culture that I would like to explore further in the future. My first article on this topic will appear on Sur-la-pointe in October.

The grape harvest is in full swing in Tokaj. As pa The grape harvest is in full swing in Tokaj. As part of the BOR 2025 Hungarian Wine Summit, I had the opportunity to visit Hungary's most famous wine region for the first time. It was a great experience! More about the region and how it is currently reinventing itself will be available soon on sur-la-pointe. The pictures of the winery and the work at the sorting table were taken at Disznókő, the fermentation tanks at the Sauska winery.

You can still find a fantastic selection of great You can still find a fantastic selection of great Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne at the top wine merchants in Paris. In personal conversations, however, the owners enjoy opening up up rarities from lesser-known regions. Changlin Xie runs Les Caves des Amis, a tiny wine shop on Rue de l'Arcade with a spectacular selection (almost exclusively French, but also including Klaus-Peter Keller from Germany). Together we tasted a 2020 Arbois Pupillin Ploussard Côte de Feule from Cellier Saint Benoit. Very pure and transparent, medium-bodied, fresh and with silky tannins, very nice to drink on its own. Unfortunately, there are only 1,500 bottles of it. Thank you for the generous gesture!🍷

Even in France, there is border viticulture. Egate Even in France, there is border viticulture. Egategeia is a project by oenologist Emmanuel Poirmeur on the Basque Coast. The grapes grow on 2 hectares within sight of the Atlantic Ocean, in the Corniche Basque in Urrugne near Saint-Jean de Luz at an altitude of about 100 meters. In the white Cuvée Dena Dela (Colombard and Ugni Blanc), 70 percent is fermented classically, while the rest ferments underwater at Saint-Jean-de-Luz for at least 4 months. The result has only 11% alcohol, light fermentation carbon dioxide, and beautiful citrus aromas. A lovely aperitif for hot days. 🥂

Finally... the south! In the French Basque Country Finally... the south! In the French Basque Country, Irouleguy is the best wine choice ! Peïo Errecart from Domaine Abotia blends 20% Petit Courbu, 30% Petit Manseng, and 50% Gros Manseng in his white wine and ages the wine partly in neutral barriques. It goes wonderfully with Jambon de Bayonne, a well-aged Ossau-Iraty sheep's cheese, and especially with “ventrèche”, or tuna belly, in this case hand-caught and cut up before my eyes in the magnificent market hall of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. 🥂
